Community space

ACON has a community space in Port Macquarie for members of ACON’s community.

• Lounge and coffee/tea making facilities
• Information on GLBT health and HIV/AIDS 
• Safe sex and sexual health information
• Regional newsletter distribution point
• GLBT community papers
• Condoms and lube

The space is available for use by GLBT community groups.

Volunteers

Volunteers are an integral and valuable part of service delivery at ACON. The volunteer program provides opportunities for volunteers to participate in:

• Front of house customer service
• Drug education
• Community development and education
• Lesbian health projects
• Events and fundraising

The program also offers opportunities to use or develop skills and connect with the community.

Client services

In Port Macquarie and Coffs Habour our Outreach Officers provde intake, assessment and referral to individual support services, advocacy for GLBT people and everyone living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

Individual support includes:

• Housing and legal information
• Referral to peer support groups, relevant services and organisations

Outreach services are provided to:

• Taree
• Forster/Tuncurry
• Kempsey
• Wauchope

Advocacy work includes assistance and advice with homophobia and discrimination. Workshops on GLBT and HIV/AIDS awareness are provided to mainstream services. These can be tailored to suit specific situations and groups.

Community Health Promotion

The Community Health Promotion Officers works with GLBT people, and supports all of ACON’s community members, through the provision of health education, information and workshops, support and referrals, distribution of resources, community development, building community capacity, peer facilitator training, mainstream service provider training and organising community activities, events & projects.
