When You're Hot You're Hot

ACON's When You're Hot You're Hot booklet is for guys who are interested in sex-on-premises venues but who have little experience with them. The book covers what venues look like, how they operate and ways to use them safely. Increasing knowledge and confidence of venues will help new users adopt strategies that work for them and enable them to use venues in a safe way. An important focus of the book is cruising techniques. Cruising is the most common form of communication in venues and is usually the first stage of sex. Understanding cruising will enable new users to take greater control of their experiences in venues.

The information included in the booklet has come from a series of focus groups run by ACON with both experienced and inexperienced users.

Sex venue Code of Practice

ACON has developed a voluntary Code of Practice for sex on premises venues. The Code sets standards around:

Access to free condoms and water based lubricant for patrons in all areas
Adequate levels of lighting particularly around safe sex information
Free information on safe sex, HIV, hepatitis and drugs
Staff training opportunities from ACON on infection control, HIV, STIs, Hepatitis and drug use
Infection control standards including cleaning and food preparation
Safe disposal equipment

The Code of Practice is based around the principles that all patrons have the right to practice safe and consensual sex and that both patrons and staff have the right to information about safe sex and to be treated with respect. Most sex on premises venues in Sydney have supported this new Code of Practice and have signed up as a commitment to the health and wellbeing of their patrons and staff.
