Sex work is LEGAL in NSW.

Operating a brothel or escort agency has also been decriminalised.

There are some laws and regulations in NSW that apply to sex workers, their clients and the operation of sex industry businesses.

Beats are public places, like toilets or parklands, where men may gather to meet others for sexual or social reasons. Beats can play an important part in the lives of some communities. If you are going to visit beats here’s a few things you need to know.

 

Report Violence

Harassment, Discrimination and Vilification

For many gay men and lesbians, discrimination and harassment is a common experience in their everyday lives. It can happen in schools, universities, TAFE, workplaces and within neighbourhoods. Harassment over a period of time can be very traumatic and distressing. It can have a significant impact on the day to day lives of those who are experiencing it.

What is Sexual Assault?

Sexual assault is a serious issue and includes any unwanted sexual activity.

  • It's against the law to force someone to do something sexually that they don't want to do
  • This is the case regardless of the gender, sexuality, age or culture of the survivor or the perpetrator
  • It's difficult for anyone to talk about sexual assault and to access the services that they require - for the GLBT community, it can be even more difficult

 

What Is The Safe Place Program?

The Safe Place program aims to provide a network of businesses and community organisations across NSW that people can use if fearful of street-based homophobic violence. There are currently over 200 Safe Places throughout New South Wales.

 

How does a Safe Place work?

A Safe Place sticker identifies each location as being part of the Safe Place program. The sticker is usually attached to a door or window that faces the street. Stickers are valid for the years indicated. This ensures that Safe Place locations are always up-to-date with information and support.
