Connecting With The Community

| Sydney Women’s Baseball League |
When we talk about ‘the GLBT community’ there's a large amount of diversity and many ways to get connected. Here is a just a snapshot of some of the ways you can get involved.
Community and social groups
These can be a great way to get connected. There's heaps of them in Sydney and many throughout NSW. ACON provides a range of services and runs many groups and workshops and these can be an excellent way to meet other like minded people. Volunteering is also a great way to make friendships. Check out our Get Involved page for more details.
Some other community organisations that can be fun to get involved with are New Mardi Gras, Positive Life and Queerscreen. However there are many other interest-specific organisations, many of which you'll find advertised in the community sections of GLBT publications and online listings such as pinkguide.com.
Sporting groups
For a great list of sports organisations in Sydney and throughout NSW, go to the Team Sydney website.
The scene
The ‘scene’ is a common term used to refer to pub and club events in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. For more information on upcoming events at bars and clubs in the Sydney area check out Sydney Star Observer, SX and samesame.com.au.
Online communities
Another way to connect with the community is through websites such as samesame.com.au which provide spaces for people to meet and exchange ideas. Many mainstream online communities will also have GLBT sub-communities present.
