What We Do

Youth

We work with same-sex attracted young people under 26 years of age to improve our health and connect with other young people by providing a range of programs, workshops, resources and events.

We have two peer education youth projects: Fun & Esteem (for guys) and the Young Women’s Project. Peer education means our projects are run by young people, for young people. This involves same-sex attracted youth helping, supporting and informing other same-sex attracted youth. Using this approach, participants use common knowledge and experiences to connect with and support each other. This means that both projects are highly reliant on and driven by our many dedicated volunteers.

While both projects are about sexuality and are gender-specific, all of our workshops and events open to transgender, genderqueer, and gender questioning youth. Additionally, while both projects focus on general health and wellbeing, Fun & Esteem has a particular focus on HIV prevention and education.

Did you know?

While many young GLBT people live happy and healthy lives, research shows that the bullying, discrimination and social isolation that some same-sex attracted young people experience can make them more likely than their heterosexual counterparts to practice unsafe sex, start using drugs, self harm or attempt suicide.
